I didn't know what to blog about today . . .

. . . but I got this from the Church's news site:

Beloved Church President, Gordon B. Hinckley, dies at 97

SALT LAKE CITY 27 January 2008 President Gordon B. Hinckley, who led The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through twelve years of global expansion, has died at the age of 97. The Church president died at his apartment in downtown Salt Lake City at 7:00 p.m. Sunday night from cause's incident to age. Member of his family were at his bedside. A successor is not expected to be formally chosen by the Church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles until after President Hinckley's funeral within the next few days.

~Marsha Ward, who knew this day would come soon, but is nevertheless numb at the news

  1. I'm glad you posted this. Being a convert I often heard people talk about President McKay and how much they loved him as a prophet; I felt that way about President Hinckley. I waited a long time to have a favorite (if that's an appropriate term), but I dearly loved his sense of humor. I'll miss him.

  2. I have loved each prophet as they led us. Each one is unique. President Hinckley was so inspiring because of his youthfulness, his humor and truly inspiring visionary leadership.
It is also a great comfort to know we are left if very competent, excellent hands to continue on the path of righteousness. I have full faith in Presidents Monson, and Eyring. It is a blessing to know all the keys are here on earth and held by the quorum of the twelve.
We will not be searching the skies over a chimney for black or white smoke. We will not be wondering about choosing between the lesser of evils in a political process. We will not be lost because our leader is dead. Instead we can walk forth in steadfastness, full of faith that God directs this church, That his son Jesus Christ is our rock and foundation and the Holy Ghost is our witness to assure us of the validity of what will happen in the future.
April Conference will be exciting! We will have a new prophet, A new member of the first presidency, and a new Apostle. I rest assured that whoever is called to these positions will be wonderful and just who is needed for this time in this dispensation.
I know God lives, I know that Jesus Christ, may savior loves me, and that I am blessed daily by the pressence of the Holy Ghost.
    Amen.
