In the Summertime

by Kami Cornwall

The first presentation I gave in school last year was on "burnout" and how to avoid it. Most of us already know these principles: Don't schedule yourself too heavily, have a hobby, get out and talk to people, find your inner peace, etc.

This summer I have been trying to keep a good balance of everything. Variety brings spice to life! So far I have been a jazz singer, a fitness student, house hunter, hostess, reader, writer, friend, and vacation planner. I made a list of things to do this summer. 'Cause you know me...I like my lists.

  • Take the kids to the water park
  • Make homemade lemonade
  • Walk barefoot in the grass
  • Go for a hike
  • Write more
  • Play more
  • Sleep more
What's on your list this summer to avoid the blahs?

  1. I wish I could be that carefree again. My summer will be same old-same old. Go to work, come home, zonk out with my foot up for a few hours, then write.
I hope you get to be as laid back as your list suggests. It's a good one.
Treasure these days with your kids during the summer. I did. Don't make any plans. Just let the days happen with them. My kids, all adults now, still say they loved it when there was no schedule.

  2. That's good to remember. I want to make sure I enjoy each phase of life rather than have regrets later on. :)

  3. I appreciate this reminder. I've been too caught up in the "have-to-dos". I'm glad I took time to play last week with the kids and grans, though. hugs~
